♫♪ Only God Knows ♫♪

THE FOLLOWING IS FICTION, BUT IS BASED ON TRUE EVENTS THAT OCCUR EVERY DAY

She groans as she wakes from sleep. She had a very rough evening. Between the argument with her parents and the fight with her boyfriend, she is mentally and physically drained. Her dad points her in one direction while her mom points her to another, and since her boyfriend just can’t seem to decide anything, he decided to bail out all together.

She really didn’t anticipate life turning the way it did. BEFORE, she was just a regular teenage girl with a bright future and plenty of time on her side. AFTER, she was totally lost with no sense of direction at all. What’s so infuriating is that BEFORE was over in a flash with no notice at all.

She leans over and grabs a pamphlet from her bedside table. She flips through with a few quick glances, but immediately tosses it aside as she remembers last night’s argument once again. She sighs as she pulls the pillow from under her head and presses it against her face. She groans aloud as she tosses the pillow over to the floor. “This is just not fair!” That’s the only thought that she can think of… And it’s making her crazy.

♫♪ “She will never see the beauty of a sunrise,
nor pick a flower blowing in the wind.
She will never climb up to sit on Daddy’s knee
never spend a summer day with her best friend.

She will never bake cookies with Mommy
never know what it’s like to be sixteen.
Never share her love with that special someone
never have the family of her childhood dreams.” ♫♪

She walks into the kitchen that is silent along with the rest of the empty house. “Perhaps breakfast will clear my head a bit.” she thinks as she opens the pantry and grabs a box of cereal and a package of Pop-Tarts. As she heads to the refrigerator to get a carton of milk, she sees an envelope with her name on it in her mother’s handwriting.

She promptly removes it from the magnet clamp and opens it to reveal the contents… A simple note reading “do the right thing” and a blank check. She kneels to the floor as she bursts into tears.

♫♪ “He will never celebrate his first birthday
you will never hear him call your name out loud.
He will never run across a grassy meadow
or will he be that little boy who makes you proud?

He will never go fishing with Daddy
never have the joy of buying his first car.
He will never get to father his own family
or hear his little boy wish upon a star.” ♫♪

As she parks her car in the parking lot, she pauses for a moment as she leans onto the steering wheel. Her box of Kleenex is nearly empty along with any remaining strength as she finally opens the car door… forced to face the most difficult day of her life among strangers.

As she stares at the sign that advertises her destination, she sees a church about a block away. She immediately remembers last nights heated discussion with the parents, and how the decision was split right down the middle. While her father spoke loudly about how everything happens for a reason and that God has a plan for this family, all her mom could say is “it is Amy’s choice, and Amy’s life, and she needs to do what’s right!”

As Amy stared at the church, she gets back in her car and heads to the church. Yes, it IS her life, and even though this is not what her mom had in mind, she’s going to do the right thing.

♫♪ “Day by day and one by one we’re killing our future
by the thousands every day across the land.
Can you tell me what has happened to America?
Is there anyone who dares to take a stand?
We have the blood of little children on our hands.” ♫♪

A group of ladies suggested by the church led Amy through prayer and scripture, and provided her with many of the resources she would need to get her through this part of life. They stood by her for the remaining trimesters, and even made a surprise visit to the hospital after her water broke.

They lended their helping hands for many years to come as Amy, a single teenage mother raised a beautiful baby into a handsome young man, who not only graduated at the top of his class, but became a husband and father himself, helping raise two boys and a girl… A girl who opened an Abortion Alternative center in New York City that helped bring the word of God to thousands of young parents who need it just as her Grandmother did five decades before.

♫♪ “But in heaven God is picking up the pieces
of the countless treasures we have thrown away.
Slowly he’s reshaping and remolding
those precious little helpless lumps of clay.
So lovingly he holds them in his hand.
Only God knows just what they could have been.” ♫♪
